ABOUT

In 2010, while my mom was visiting me from Texas, she had two strokes back to back. She ended up staying at my house for about 9 months while recovering. During that time, my brother and I took care of her and assisted her with all the daily activities of living – bathing, dressing, medication management, meal preparation, taking her to all of her doctors appointments – just doing everything that involved managing her life.

Ultimately, due to the strokes, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia and was told she could no longer live by herself. This confirmed what my brother and I already knew; however, my mom wouldn’t be convinced until someone with authority delivered the news.

During her period of recovery, I spoke with many caregiver companies and individuals about assisting with the care of my mom, but there never seemed to be a connection. It just never felt right. It then occurred to me that I should start my own agency because I have lived (and am still living) what people are going through every day with their aging parents. I know what you need and I know how to find the right people to care for your loved ones.

Until it becomes your responsibility to take care of your parents or loved one, it’s hard to comprehend what this is like. For most people in this position, it’s the most daunting, exhausting and overwhelming experience of your life for a variety of reasons. And if you’re like me, when you’re going through a difficult time, you like to work with people who’ve had similar experiences.

You can take great comfort in working with Stay At Home Care. We’ve been there, done that, and are still doing it.
